The two men who were killed in a shooting in Toronto on Sunday have been identified as Chien Lee and Francesco Elias.

Mr Lee, 42, was shot multiple times in a home on Murray Street in Scarborough, as part of a shooting that killed two others.

Mr Elias, 22, was shot a short distance away in a school parking lot.

Both men were outside Toronto’s Italian Cultural Centre as part of a pre-wedding party when the shooting occurred.

Mr Lee is the eldest of three children. His mother died earlier this year and he had planned to wed his fiancée, Melina Roberge, on Saturday.

His fiancée has since released a statement to the Toronto Star describing her “never ending pain”.

“My love has lost his life and I will forever love him. He was my best friend, my caregiver, my rock and my shoulder to cry on. He will be sadly missed,” she said.

Mr Elias was a third-year business student at Bishop’s University.

He was the son of Italian immigrants and came to Toronto from Sarnia, Ontario at the age of two.

The attack on Sunday afternoon has drawn international media attention. A mass shooting at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester in May 2017 left 22 people dead.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said the country would act.

“We will respond as we responded to last year’s attack at the Pride parade, and as we will respond to the many other terrorist attacks that we’ve seen around the world,” he said.

A woman who wished to remain anonymous told the Associated Press news agency that she was in the reception area at the Italian Cultural Centre when the shooting began.

“We had been drinking in the bar and, minutes after we left to go to the party, we saw a lot of police and lots of chaos and a lot of guns, lots of guns.

“We heard the gun shots and we all got down to the floor,” she said.

Two people injured in the attack were taken to hospital, Canadian media reported.

Police are looking for multiple suspects.
